A Study on Autoimmune Diseases: Etiology, Classification, Diagnosis, and Treatment

Abstract

Autoimmune diseases represent a complex and heterogeneous group of disorders that affect the immune system and lead to the destruction of the body’s own tissues. These conditions encompass a wide spectrum of health problems involving multiple organs, significantly impairing patients’ quality of life and posing major challenges for clinicians and researchers. This study aims to provide a comprehensive review and analysis of autoimmune diseases, including their potential causes, types and classification, diagnostic approaches, and available treatments. A selection of scientific studies was reviewed using specialized databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar. Previous research and theoretical references were analyzed to gain deeper insights into autoimmune diseases. Findings indicate that autoimmune disorders result from abnormal immune responses directed against self-tissues. Prior studies have highlighted genetic, environmental, and immunological factors as possible contributors to disease onset. The study concludes that advancing our understanding of autoimmune diseases and developing targeted therapies that address specific pathogenic pathways are of critical importance. Furthermore, research efforts should emphasize the psychological and social impacts of these conditions and ensure adequate patient support. Continued investigation is encouraged to identify contributing factors and to develop effective strategies for prevention and treatment of autoimmune diseases.
